1Samuel 16:10-13 [NIV]
The bible says in 1 Samuel 16:10-11, Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, “The LORD has not chosen these.” So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.” Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.” God can do many things just in the simplicity of time. Wherever you’re in this season of lockdown, God has something for you. He is not going to do anything until you’re in your place. God is not going to miss on you and no one is going to replace your position just like David. It doesn’t matter how long it will take you to get there, they will wait for you. No one can steal from you.
Verse 12 says, Jesse sent for David and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. The Lord told Samuel, he’s the one. Sometimes you need to know that the people who are the gate keepers of your life aren’t the one to give you the promotion. Samuel wasn’t a gatekeeper but he was just a messenger. God was David’s gate keeper. When you look at this entire text, you will realize that David was called not knowing what was going to happen. The beauty about David’s life is that he always did what he was meant to do. He was in the field tending the flock of sheep. When you look at sheep as a flock it comes to mind that we as leaders have a flock to look after. God has given us the flock to takecare of. He also wants us to understand that to get to level 2 [another level] we must pass level one. It’s very hard for God to promote you when you have not passed the basics of level one.
David’s brothers never approved him for that anointing. Nobody wanted him to succeed. None of his brothers stopped him from going to the field that day. When God calls you for the next level, something always happens and it’s called the ANOINTING. When David was called by his father, he was focused and as he was walking in, he met Samuel. David never complained why he wasn’t told earlier; infact he was okay with his level one. Never walk in early when you’re the chief guest. David was the chief guest that day. He wasn’t there to watch his brothers get anointed because he was looking after the sheep, but his brothers were there to watch him get anointed. And this entire text is about “FOMO” whose acronym is “Fear Of Missing Out.” Many people fear to miss out. Jonah had FOMO that he tried to run away from God and he landed no way that a whale swallowed him and vomited him where God had told him to go. Each one of us has FOMO. With the case of David, he had no Fear Of Missing Out. FOMO is like Fear – False Evidence Appearing Real. Danger is real but Fear is not real. Fear will not only rob you of your freedom but with that of others!
So, when God anoints you from now on, it means that it has no end. He prepares for you a table before your enemies. God anointed David before his brothers! And God said to Samuel, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.” God doesn’t do things half way. Samuel did what he was told to do because obedience is better than sacrifice. Some of you are standing and even blocking other people’s blessings. Samuel followed instructions and he never hesitated; he said, “We will not sit down until he arrives!” The truth be told, Samuel never knew David. He was waiting for the CALLED.
As I conclude: when Samuel anointed David, the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon him and stayed with him. The scripture says, Samuel then went to Ramah; he returned home [1 Samuel 16:13]. Listen to this: after God has told you to do what He has instructed you, step aside. Anointings don’t share position. Samuel had to leave. Some of you are stuck where you are because you refused to let go of what God told you to leave. Some of you are anointed but you are disturbed by the success of others. God wants to give you another position but you’re still holding onto that position.
