#4th anniversary Celebrations of 77 D.O.Gs, Sept-20th
I want to share a word from 2 kings 4:1-7. This is a familiar passage of scripture as I was talking to Pr. Robert on the phone, less than a month ago, and he was sharing with me the revelations that God was giving him through this passage. Before this pandemic, I was studying this passage and sharing the different aspects of this word, and I really believe this is a word for someone out there that God has something He wants to speak to you.
So this passage in 2 Kings talks about Prophet Elisha and the woman, and the scripture starts by saying, A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the LORD. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.” Verse 2: So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” In the midst of her need, the prophet asked her a question; what do you have in the house? And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.” Then listen to what Elisha said from verse 3 to 5: Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few. And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.” So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought [the vessels] to her; and she poured [it] out. Verse 6: Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “[There is] not another vessel.” So the oil ceased. Empty vessels were miraculously filled up through a supernatural miracle. She said to her son, “bring me another vessel” Verse 7 reads; Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you [and] your sons live on the rest.”
The word I have for you today is this, “God is still looking for available vessels.” The story we have just read here is about the vessels being filled with oil, and this text reveals to us that there wasn’t shortage of oil but shortage of vessels. I believe when God looks at the span of the earth in this day and age, He is looking out for vessels that He can use; vessels He can fill; vessels He can empower and He can flow through.
I challenge you today to be God’s vessel. Be the available vessel that God can use. I don’t know what you are going through or your circumstances but what I do know is that God is looking for vessels He can fill and flow through. I ask you right now to determine in your heart to be an available vessel that God can use. Think about heaven, it has the oil but it needs the vessels.
So you can ask, what is the oil? In this story, the oil represents the presence of God; it represents God’s glory. As we also see in scripture that the joy of the Lord is the oil; strength of the Lord symbolizes the oil. The Holy Spirit and His power are symbolized in the oil. So friends, I want to encourage you that God has unlimited supply of the oil but He is looking for a vessel. I wonder if you can be that vessel that God can flow in; that God can pour in His Holy Spirit. There is more power and peace that God wants to give you right now. Even when you look at yourself as not capable to be used of God, I want to encourage you that God is still looking for vessels. God is not looking for a perfect or educated or the most fluent vessel but He is looking for the available vessel to use. When you make yourself available to God, He will make you CAPABLE. God is looking for available vessel and people He can flow through.
Friends, be determined in your hearts to be one of the people God will use to bring about His plans here on earth. I remember praying a small prayer 25 years ago at a certain rural village in Africa, and what I experienced was the joy of helping others and being available. That small prayer is what has led me to minister with you tonight on this broadcast. It was that small prayer of availability that I now want His will to be done in my life. I won’t be ministering God’s word with confidence if I had no understanding of availability. But this is what I realized, God is not looking for a moment of availability, He is looking for a lifetime of availability. He doesn’t want to seek Him for a moment because you have had moments with Him; maybe while watching a broadcast or attending a church service, or you thought that’s it, you surrendered to Him; you had an encounter with Him and felt the presence of the Holy Spirit, or you are still looking back at those moments as to when God ever moved. But friends, this revival is a proof that God doesn’t want to move once in a while but He wants to move all the time. God needs available people and vessels.
Friends, heaven has the oil but it’s looking the vessels. Will you be the available vessel? When you think about a vessel, it’s a substance carrying something somewhere. A vessel is a substance that contains something to be transported. The container is important because of the substance which is inside. The substance is what brings life. You are the vessel and you contain a source which is powerful; you contain the presence of God. The bible says in Romans 8:11, But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. You are the vessel and He is the source. His Spirit is raised up in the inside of you. When we look at the book of Acts, the Holy Spirit was poured out on those early followers of Jesus. He filled them to the overflow. You are the vessel that God wants to use but He also wants to flood your life with His source of hope, strength, peace and power. The vessel is very valuable because of the substance it carries. The bible says we were created from the dust and you could think that the dust is not valuable yet Jesus the Son of God gave His life. You are the most expensive thing on the earth and never devalue yourself because Jesus gave His life for you.
Ask yourself, what is in my life that God is asking to be available? This story in 2 kings 4 reveals to us how Elisha responded to this woman with a question. “What do you have in your house?” It’s amazing that her response shows the attitude she was in. When asked what she had, she said, “I have nothing BUT a jar of OIL.” So I want to ask you a question, was it nothing or was it something? In reality, the prophet was helping her understand. You might have nothing yet when you actually have something. Elisha was encouraging this woman to use what she had. Don’t look at what you don’t have but look at what you do have. Everyone has something and that’s what the prophet was trying to point out to this woman; that use what you think you don’t have and watch God multiply. The bible says, as long as the earth remains, seed, time and harvest shall not cease [Genesis 8:22]. What if this woman had a seed and that’s what the prophet was asking so that it could produce a miracle harvest. We see a multiplication, and after she used what she had, there was a great harvest. You could say, you have nothing and this pandemic has not left anything for you but I say that you have something with you; you have the breath.
There are three things that we must notice from this story; go borrow vessels from your neighbors and friends as many vessels as you can. The key for being an available vessel from this scripture is humility. Elisha was trying to help this woman understand that for her to step into her season, she had to be humble. Something powerful takes place when we humble ourselves. To be an available vessel to be used of God, it requires an awareness that you cannot do it by yourself. Your money, education, relationships and connections, none of these will bring you to a place where God requires you to be. You cannot make it in this life by yourself; it requires humility. James 4:6 says, But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: [“God resists the proud,] [But gives grace to the humble.”] There is grace that is coming to you when you open up and say, Lord, I can’t do it on my own; I can’t make it in my own ability any longer, I need You to come in; invade my life, my house, I need You to work a miracle, and once you do that, He comes in and floods your life but it takes humility. And maybe that’s where you are right now. You don’t know how to move on but through humility, there comes strength. Remember, God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Grace is actually the word for empowerment; the power of the Holy Spirit. The grace that is not just covering your past but the grace that is empowering you for your future. Through humility you receive power and strength. For this woman to get her miracle, we see humility involved. Understand that God to work in your life, you must be humble.
Another thing we see in this story after this woman was told to go and borrow as many vessels as she could, was an instruction to bring “empty vessels.” This reveals to me that in order for any vessel to be used of God, it requires complete surrender. Surrender is the emptying of yourself. It’s the emptying of your dreams, plans and purposes. Surrendering of your WILL to God. Isn’t this the way Jesus told us to pray when He said, Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven? That is what God wants each of His children to pray. Praying and believing; “Lord, let Your will be done here on earth as it is in heaven,” that’s surrendering your WILL for God’s WILL, to fill and flood you with what He wants. Elisha told the woman to bring empty vessels, and God is still looking for empty vessels that He can use and do miracles in, but He is also looking for someone to surrender. Wherever you are right now, why don’t you just surrender everything to God? Ask Him to have His way in you. Surrender that weakness or habit to God and I pray that the Holy Spirit will flood your life, your room and office. And in this moment of surrender, may the Lord bring you great strength. Holy Spirit have Your way in our hearts, minds and lives.
What Elisha was helping this woman understand was that the key to her miracle was going to come through humility but to be accessed through surrender. In your surrender, the Lord will bring supernatural strength. Jesus said in Matthew 16:24-25, If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. Is there anything in your life that needs to be emptied? Is there anything in your life that has been holding you? Jesus through this passage is telling you to let it go; He is saying that you don’t have to hold onto your past. Maybe it’s a relationship that never worked out, something bothering your mind because people mistreated you, maybe circumstances have let you down and you don’t know how to get out, I want to encourage you to ask God to help you, and in your words, you can say, “Lord, I release it to You; I surrender it to You!” Something powerful happens when we surrender and that is the OIL. That same oil that was poured into these vessels can be poured into your life.
Friends, as it takes humility and surrender, it also takes the boldness. And this is what the prophet said in verse 3, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few.” God is looking for bold people; men and women who can pray bold prayers. Miracle Centre, God has called you to be bold. It takes boldness in the midst of a pandemic to conduct a revival service every night reaching out to over 150 nations. On the other side of boldness, we see supernatural power. With that boldness comes an outpouring of fresh oil. I want to challenge you that God wants to take you to another level but it requires boldness on your part. It is going to require you to do some things maybe in your giving, believing God, and may be in your obedience to God to be bold. God has more in store for your life. What are those bold steps that God is leading you to take during this period of time? There are certain things that God wants you to do but you must be bold. Remember, Heaven has the oil but it needs the vessels to use.
